August 18 2011.The new 125 Yamaha Raptor is set to make its British X-Country championship début next month after an impressive winning enduro début in the hands of Dafyyd Davies. The 12-year-old beat a competitive Youth field of 24 by over five minutes in the one-and-half-hour race, which was round six of the Dragon Quad Racing club championship. “Before the meeting, the furthest I had ridden it was into the back of the van,” said Davies, who will now field it in the 100 Shifter class at the final ACU British X-Country championship round on September 11, which has been moved to Llangrove on the English-Welsh border. His father Ed built the bike up for him and reckons it is a cheaper alternative to the more expensive hybrids currently dominating the 100 Shifter class. “It uses the original frame, so with suspension and A-arms, it stands you around £6500. That’s about half what some of the hybrids are costing,” said Davies Snr, who has imported a batch of ten. Davies Jnr though will not make his QX debut on the Raptor until next season, instead opting to defend his leads in 100cc Modified British and NORA championships this year.
