April 5 2011.The opening round of the European Quadcross Championship ran alongside the World Sidecarcross Championship at Oss in Holland last weekend and attracted an entry of 38 riders from nine different nations. Amongst the entry were seven Brits and all but one qualified for the two races on Sunday. In the first moto Mark Watson got a superb start and was second for the first couple of laps with Paul Holmes in fourth and Paul Winrow and Jason Macbeth in the top ten. As the race progressed track conditions deteriorated, with even the most experienced riders getting stuck at times. At the flag Jan Vlaeymans took the win from reigning Euro champion, Frenchman Romain Couprie. The best placed Brit was Paul Winrow in sixth. Second time out, Jeremie Warnia led for the whole race and took the win, making up for an enforced DNF right at the start of the first leg. Of the Brits, Watson was again the front-runner, starting in sixth place, just ahead of Macbeth and Holmes. Watson made a mistake on lap two and dropped down to 20th place, leaving Macbeth and Holmes to fight it out. They rode nose to tail for seven laps until Holmes finally got the advantage. With three laps remaining Holmes was up to fifth, but Macbeth was fading and was passed by both Couprie and DeCuyper. On the penultimate lap Joe Maessen pulled out from second place, promoting Holmes up to fourth while Macbeth dug deep and passed both Couprie and De Cuyper to snatch fifth place at the flag. In the overall results all the British qualifiers scored points, with Holmes being the highest placed in fourth spot.
